“Due to its success in 2010 and 2011 the third edition of the Designers & Artists 4 Genomics Award (DA4GA) will take place in 2012. The results of the current edition are on exhibition at Naturalis, Leiden until the end of this year.

Always wanted to be at the forefront of riveting art that is trans-disciplinary and pushes the boundaries of technological and artistic possibilities? Then submit your application for DA4GA and take a chance on winning € 25,000 for your project!

DA4GA highlights and explores the exciting and novel possibilities between design, artistic practice and Life Sciences. Inaugurated by the Netherlands Genomics Initiative, Waag Society, Naturalis and CSG – Centre for Society and the Life Sciences, DA4GA aims to stimulate emerging designers and artists to delve into the world of bio-art, and produce new work in close collaboration with the most prestigious Dutch Life Science institutes in the field of sustainability, food, health, bio-informatics, agriculture, energy and safety.

CFP – Call for Scientific, Scholarly and Artistic Proposals

Proposals are invited for papers/posters, workshops, roundtable discussions, applied and artistic contributions, relating, but not limited to the conference’s main topics on sound, media and the environment.

DEADLINE: March 30, 2021

“You are invited to submit your scholarly, scientific and/or artistic proposals on sound related topics and issues.

Deadline for submission: March 30, 2012
Notification: April 20, 2012
Papers ready and submitted by: June 26, 2012

All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by the conference’s committees.

Proposals are invited for papers/posters, workshops, roundtable discussions, applied and artistic contributions, relating, but not limited to the conference’s main topics. (Please, load down the appropriate form from this page and fill it out.)

Suggested topics are:

  • the idea of a collaborative and sustainable macro-soundscape or global composition
  • sound design/soundscape design/soundscape creation
  • influencing environmental sound – environmental sounds’ influences
  • methods of perceiving/analyzing/creating/reconstructing soundscapes
  • the role of technology and media in enhancing/obstructing sound(scape) awareness and critical listening
  • (media) ecological approaches as the basis for listening cultures
  • pedagogical aspects of listening
  • media aesthetic/media cultural education
  • recent research on environmental sound, acoustic ecology and related issues

We are also interested in intermedia and transdisciplinary approaches, which a strong focus on sound.

Call for Entries – Art of the Small Exhibition & Competition

This open call is for work in virtually any media inspired by nanotechnology, nanobiotech, biotechnology, genomics, DNA, and genetics.

Deadline: March 17, 2012

“Artists are invited to participate in the Art of the Small Competition and Exhibition, to be held in conjunction with the Nanotech Commercialization Conference. The Conference will be hosted by the State of North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN), and the NanoBusiness Commercialization Association on April 4th and 5th, 2012, in Bay 7 at the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham, North Carolina.

This open call is for work in virtually any media inspired by nanotechnology, nanobiotech, biotechnology, genomics, DNA, and genetics. Winning artists in several categories will receive a cash award.

Art submissions will be on display all day on Wednesday, April 4th and Thursday, April 5th during the Nanotech Commercialization Conference. A VIP Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday April 4th from 5 to 7pm. All artists whose work has been selected for inclusion in the exhibition will be invited to attend.

A panel of expert judges drawn from the worlds of art, science, and science communication will select the winning entries. The art will be judged on three key criteria: depiction and representation of the theme, creativity of image representation and innovation in style or technique. A Best of Show ($1,000) and two Runner Up ($250 each) awards will be given. The winning artists will receive cash awards.

Following the Conference, images of the exhibition and works from the exhibition will appear in an online gallery supported by COIN for a period of 36 months. The work will also be reproduced on promotional materials related to the contest.

The show will be widely attended by local, regional, national and international cultural leaders, scientists, investors, government officials and others interested in the intersection of nanotechnology and creativity…”
