NASA Invites You to Create James Webb Space Telescope-inspired Art

We want to offer more artists a chance to participate…

How?

  • Browse through NASA images and videos and see what inspires you.
  • Create art! (Note: this is not limited to art you can hang on a wall.)
  • Share it on social media.

Why?

In November 2016, a small group of artists was selected to visit NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, to see the James Webb Space Telescope in person, and to be inspired to create art. They have been busy ever since, producing amazing work that we are presenting for exhibit during Spring 2017 at the Goddard Visitor Center (date TBA).

Their offerings include painting, poetry, sculpting, textiles, woodworking, music, silk screening, 3-D design, jewelry, posters, tattooing and letterpress printing.

Though we were only able to physically accommodate a small number of artists, we were so impressed by the number of talented people who were interested in participating. We want to offer more artists a chance to participate virtually…

ASCI International Open Call: “SCIENCE INSPIRES ART: FOOD“

18th international art-sci juried exhibition organized by Art & Science Collaborations September 17, 2016 – February 26, 2017 at the New York Hall of Science

Deadline: May 22, 2016
Location: USA

“SCIENCE INSPIRES ART: FOOD“ will document artwork that reflect on the topic of FOOD from all angles: from the historical record to the elite haute-cuisine of today’s “molecular gastronomy”; as a physical material for making or inspiring art, or a performance medium for creating community. We are seeking 2D images of original art executed in any media.

Since FOOD is on the frontlines of our future sustainability, we want to see what artists are thinking about and creating in the face of this new complexity. What are the artistic reactions to the science of food security and safety, nutrition, food health disorders or obsessions, edible front yards, eating insects, or even to the recent technological innovation of “printing” a personalized 3D meal on a plate, or growing furniture (and future houses) out of mushrooms!
