ASCI International Open Call: “SCIENCE INSPIRES ART: FOOD“

18th international art-sci juried exhibition organized by Art & Science Collaborations September 17, 2016 – February 26, 2017 at the New York Hall of Science

Deadline: May 22, 2016
Location: USA

“SCIENCE INSPIRES ART: FOOD“ will document artwork that reflect on the topic of FOOD from all angles: from the historical record to the elite haute-cuisine of today’s “molecular gastronomy”; as a physical material for making or inspiring art, or a performance medium for creating community. We are seeking 2D images of original art executed in any media.

Since FOOD is on the frontlines of our future sustainability, we want to see what artists are thinking about and creating in the face of this new complexity. What are the artistic reactions to the science of food security and safety, nutrition, food health disorders or obsessions, edible front yards, eating insects, or even to the recent technological innovation of “printing” a personalized 3D meal on a plate, or growing furniture (and future houses) out of mushrooms!

A Fresh Field of Life: Artists, Naturalists and the Vision for Acadia

Artists whose work reflects the connection between art and science are invited to apply for our fifth annual Art Meets Science exhibit. We are looking for work that is a reflection of observations of the natural world around us, from the stunning scenery of Acadia to the microscopic world of molecular biology.

Our arts committee will select those artists whose work best meets the criteria of the exhibit. Each artist may submit up to four pieces of work for consideration. Work must be ready to hang or display. Work may be for sale; prospective buyers will be asked to contact artists directly.

The exhibit will be held at the Laboratory from June 20 through September 30, 2016, with a public reception on July 7. In addition to formal tours of Art Meets Science, the MDI Biological Laboratory offers a robust series of programs that provide access to the exhibit, including Art Meets Science Cafés and Science Cafés.
